The Chairman of the European Parliament’s Delegation for relations with the Republic of Moldova, Siegfried Mureșan, marked the day of the first round of Moldova-EU intergovernmental negotiations with an appeal to the EU institutions to support the accession negotiations by increasing the European financial assistance to our country, IPN reports, referring to a press release of the MEP.
Noting the extraordinary progress made in modernizing the country and implementing the reforms required by the European Union, the European official said he considers that these efforts must be rewarded by the EU institutions. “That’s why, in addition to the historic decision to start accession negotiations, I expect the European Commission to propose increasing financial and technical support for the Republic of Moldova in the next period. Specifically, I believe that Moldova deserves a support instrument similar to the one we adopted for Ukraine, but proportional to the size and needs of the country.
“By helping Moldova more now, in the accession process, we ensure that the country’s economy and people’s standard of living will be closer to the EU average level at the time of accession,” concluded MEP Siegfried Mureșan.
