In the first six months of this year, the Customs Service contributed over 19 billion lei to the state budget, 7.3% more than in the same period last year. The largest share in the revenue structure is held by value added tax (VAT) – 67.9%, followed by excise duties – 25% and customs duties – 6.8%. Other payments accounted for 0.3% of the total, IPN reports, citing a press release from the institution.
Import VAT totaled 12.9 billion lei, up 8.3% compared to the first six months of the previous year.
Import duties totaled 4.7 billion lei, marking an increase of 2.7%. The largest increases were recorded in excise duties on petroleum products, which rose by 14.1% and brought in just over 2 billion lei to the budget. Excise duties on tobacco products totaled 1.4 billion lei, down 7.9% compared to the same period last year.
While excise duties on imported beer increased by 19.7% (59.4 million lei), those on wine decreased by 28.9% (1.72 million lei), and those on spirits, liqueurs, divin, and other beverages decreased by 12.3% (73.34 million lei).
Customs duties totaled 1.29 billion lei, up 15.6% compared to the same period last year.
The fee for customs procedures amounted to 22.95 million lei, representing 0.1% of total payments collected. Currently, this fee is applied exclusively to residents of Free Economic Zones (FEZ) and the Giurgiulești International Free Port (PIL) who have chosen to operate under the customs regulations in force on December 31, 2023.
The State Tax Service also reports increased revenues in the first half of the year. Revenues collected by this institution for the National Public Budget totaled 39.3 billion lei in the first six months, up 13.2% compared to the same period last year.
Following the budget adjustments approved by Parliament this week, state budget revenues for 2025 are estimated at 75.93 billion lei, while expenditures will amount to 93.83 billion lei. The budget deficit will be 17.9 billion lei.
