A helicopter with four crew members on board, including Moldovan citizens, who took part in an operation to extinguish a wildfire, crashed into the Aegean Sea off the Greek island of Samos on July 13. Two Moldovans survived and receive the necessary medical assistance. The information was confirmed for IPN by Daniel Vodă, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
According to the Ministry’s press service, the Greek coastguard confirmed the identity of the two Moldovans who survived the accident. “The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Greece is monitoring this case and is permanently in touch with the responsible local authorities, continuing offering expert consular assistance within its legal power,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration posted on social media.
The helicopter pilot, a Romanian national, was rescued on Wednesday. The search to locate the other crew members was completed on the night of July 14.
