Maia Sandu urges people to protest against PSRM’s proposal about SIS

President-elect Maia Sandu calls on the people to hamper the Dodon-Shor oligarchic majority’s attempt to usurp the power and to induce snap parliamentary elections as swiftly as possible by a protest in front of the Parliament Building on December 3, starting at 10am. She urged those who intend to take part to wear masks and to maintain social distancing, IPN reports.

“Dodon’s regime follows in Plahotniuc’s footsteps and tries to steal our votes. They try to abusively annul the people’s vote of November 15. The bill that was introduced in Parliament today by the PSRM-Shor majority, by which the Security and Intelligence Service is removed from the President’s subordination, is an anti-democratic abuse planned by the person who lost the elections and the people’s trust” Maia Sandu stated in a press briefing.

According to her, the bill is an attempt to usurp the power in the state so as to keep hostage an institution that plays a key role in fighting corruption and the risks to state security. Also, the results of the people’s vote are annulled.

The Socialist MPs proposed that the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) should return under the management of Parliament after in 2019 the institution was transferred under the President’s subordination. The authors argue Moldova is a parliamentary republic and the parliamentary control over the national security system should be strengthened. Under the bill proposed by the Socialist MPs, the SIS should be under legislative control, while the director should be named by Parliament for a five-year term.
