Approximately 80 persons who took part in the October 30 protest organized by the Shor Party, among who are protest leaders, were taken to the police station for investigation after being taken out of the crowd. According to the General Police Inspectorate, these were aggressive protesters who either destabilized the situation or intended to destabilize it. For their part, the protest organizers said the persons were detained abusively and illegally with the aim of upsetting the protest, IPN reports.
The protesters mobilized by the Shor Party gathered together in front of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and started to walk along Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Blvd towards the Great National Assembly Square. But the police banned their access by forming cordons at the intersection of the boulevard and Tighina St and recommended walking along București St. Meanwhile, the leader of the Shor Party through a video call urged the protesters to show civic disobedience to the PAS government.
Initially, the Police announced that a group of 24 persons who came to the protest to destabilize and recruit athletically built young people were escorted to the police station for questioning and investigation. “Former police employees turned up at the demonstration with specific blue ribbons on arms and instructed persons from the crowd to cause destabilization,” the General Police Inspectorate stated on Sunday. It noted that the persons tried to destabilize the situation and to incite the participants to hatred. They also tried to break through the police cordon, disobeyed orders and threw eggs and other objects at the police.
In the evening of October 30, the Inspectorate said that 28 persons who behaved aggressively during the protest and destabilized the situation were taken out of the crowd and escorted to the police station for investigation. Before the protest started, another 51 persons were detained for questioning as they intended to destabilize the situation as part of the protest.
The Shor Party accused the police of abuse, saying that tens of people were detained, traffic jams were created, streets were closed and direct threats against protesters were made. It also accused the police of preventing the protesters from going to the central square of Chisinau. It noted that leaders of the protest, among who were the head of Orhei district Dinu Țurcanu, the deputy head of Orhei district Victor Perțu and the mayor of Orhei town Pavel Verejanu, were taken to an unknown direction. The secretary of the Shor Party’s parliamentary group Yuri Kuznetsov was also detained. Later, Dinu Țurcan told the journalists that by its actions, the government discredited itself and usurped the state power. He said he was held for two hours without reason and was ultimately allowed to go.
