A man from Grigoriopol was kidnaped by two individuals and transported by a boat over the Nistru to Dubăsarii Vechi village of Criuleni district. He was held in a cellar for three days, being beaten and threatened with death. After the culprits were promised US$200,000, they released the man, IPN reports.
The General Police Inspectorate said the two men were arrested. They are suspected of committing the offense together with an accomplice who was put on the wanted list after he was sentenced to 12 years in jail for burglary.
After obtaining the promise that they will receive the money, the men transported the victim in the trunk of a car to Vadul lui Vodă town and set him free. During over two weeks, the two transmitted electronic messages to the victim’s son to remind of the promise. When the victim accumulated the asked sum, the culprits told him to convert this into digital currency. The suspects were arrested after they were denounced by the victim. The two were remanded in custody for 30 days. They face 13 to 15 years in jail.
The police also established that one of the culprits made a hoax call last Friday and informed that an explosive device had been planted at the Chisinau Apples Court.
