This autumn, the Government will present to the Parliament the project of the new administrative-territorial organization of the country. This was announced by the Secretary General of the Executive, Alexei Buzu, who specifies that almost half of the municipalities have completed the process of voluntary amalgamation, reports IPN.
According to the data presented at a press conference, out of the 892 eligible town halls for voluntary amalgamation, except for the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti, 761 have decided to initiate the process. Out of these, 400 have gone through all the stages provided by law, including public consultations, and have approved the final decision for unification.
For about 200 other town halls in the final stage of consultations and decision approvals, the deadline for completing the process has been extended until the end of August. They will continue to benefit from technical and logistical support from the State Chancellery.
Alexei Buzu stated that the Government will collaborate with the already amalgamated municipalities in developing local projects, which are to be funded from the stimulation funds allocated by the state.
The document regarding the new administrative-territorial structure will provide for a transition period of one year, until the general local elections of 2027. The town halls that will not resort to voluntary amalgamation will subsequently be included in the normative amalgamation process.
