Europe Day this year will be celebrated under the theme “Freedom, Peace, Prosperity – Europe is You!”. In the capital, the European Village will take place in the Great National Assembly Square on May 9. 18 EU Member States have prepared to share their cultural and culinary traditions with visitors of the European Village in Chisinau. Residents throughout Moldova, particularly those in the Northern region, will have the opportunity to visit the European Village organized on the occasion of Europe Day on May 19, in the heart of Balti, IPN reports.
“My friends, Europe Day is about and for people! Europe Day is about you. It is the day when we mark the values that unite us. It is the day to remind ourselves that solidarity makes us stronger. For the Republic of Moldova, it is the day when we celebrate the European aspirations of the country and its people,” said Jānis Mažeiks, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.
Activities dedicated to Europe Day 2024 will take place throughout the month of May, highlighting the values and culture of the European Union, as well as the assistance provided by the EU and its Member States for the benefit of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
At the European Village in the Great National Assembly Square, 30 EU-funded projects providing assistance in various fields such as rural, economic and social development, will inform the visitors about the activities carried out and who are or can become concrete beneficiaries of this assistance. In the evening, the public is invited to an exceptional concert featuring, in premiere, the Ambassador of the European Union to Moldova, Jānis Mažeiks, together with Cristofor Aldea-Teodorovici & Orchestra, LUPII lui Calancea, KALUSH Orchestra from Ukraine, Eurovision 2022 winners, and others.
Balti will also host the European Village, on May 19. The event will culminate with a remarkable concert by Satoshi.
European cuisine will be displayed in the European Village in both cities, which will also host a range of cultural and interactive activities for all ages: children, teenagers and adults. Whereas seniors – grandfathers and grandmothers – will enjoy dances, sports activities, nutrition and health lessons.
Europe Day 2024 events will be organized in Cahul, Ungheni and other localities in cooperation with EU-funded projects, local authorities, the network of Euroclubs and European Information Centers across the country.
Moreover, the European Film and Culture Festival will take place during 1 – 31 May in various locations in the Republic of Moldova, including villages and towns. Entry is free of charge for all those who wish to discover European films, dances, exhibitions and music.
