Elections are not just about parties, but about the strategic direction of the country, European parliamentarian

Romanian MEP Siegfried Mureșan warns that the September 28th vote represents a crucial moment for the future of the Republic of Moldova. According to him, the elections are not just about parties or political leaders, but about the strategic direction the country will follow in the future, reports IPN.

“This is an electoral campaign that will determine the direction in which the Republic of Moldova will move in the coming years. On September 28, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova will decide whether the country continues on the path of European integration, alongside over 400 million European citizens, together, with solidarity, integrating into more and more European programs and projects, or the Republic of Moldova will abruptly pull the handbrake, stop, and slide downhill,” stated MEP Siegfried Muresan during the “La 360 de grade” show on Radio Moldova.

The Member of the European Parliament emphasizes that only a pro-European government can guarantee the continuation of the integration process into the European Union. At the same time, he warns of pressures coming from the Russian Federation, which is trying to influence the outcome of the elections.

“It’s clear that only a pro-European party can ensure the country’s European integration. It’s clear that the Russian Federation is now using all the tools it has previously used to influence the referendum results. Let’s see if the authorities, together with the people, will manage to reject these multiplied attempts of the Russian Federation”, stated Siegfried Muresan.

Another aspect highlighted by the MEP concerns the formations that present themselves as pro-European, but in reality are perceived in the European Union as being pro-Russian. Muresan appeals to citizens to carefully analyze the history of these parties and not just their electoral promises.

“Pro-Russian parties, which claim to be pro-European, are perceived throughout the European Union as being pro-Russian. My plea is for citizens to always look at what politicians have done in the past, not at what they promise to do in the future”, Muresan pointed out.

The parliamentary elections will be held on September 28. Officially registered for the race are 23 electoral competitors: political parties, electoral blocks, and independent candidates.
