Merchandise exports totaled $3555.1 million last year, down 12.2% from 2023. On the contrary, imports of goods increased by 4.5%, said the National Bureau of Statistics, which has released data on Moldova’s international merchandise trade in 2024, IPN reports.
Exports of domestic merchandise in 2024 amounted to 2708,3 million dollars, which is 5,6% less than in 2023, which caused the total value of exports to decrease by 4%.
Reexports of foreign goods (after processing and classics) last year totaled $846.8 million, down 28.1% from 2023. This contributed to an 8.2% reduction in the total value of exports.
Exports of goods to European Union (EU-27) countries in 2024 totaled $2392.4 million, 9.6% less compared to 2023, accounting for 67.3% of total exports.
At the same time, exports of goods to CIS countries last year amounted to $241.6 million, 19.9% less than in 2023.
Exports fell the most in Indonesia, Malaysia, Spain, Kazakhstan. However, they increased in Turkey, the Czech Republic and the United States.
Road means of transport in 2024 remain the most commonly used means of transport for merchandise exports (82.0% of total exports), followed by maritime transport (13.8%), fixed transport installations (1.8%), and air transport (1.2%). Rail transport and postal consignments are rarely used for merchandise exports, registering 1.1% and 0.1% respectively.
