Moldova has opened its embassy in Kazakhstan, as part of a ceremony held in Astana. The diplomatic mission will be led by Ambassador Ștefan Gorda, a career diplomat with extensive experience in diplomatic service, reports IPN.
Present at the festive event, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, noted that the opening of the new diplomatic mission reflects Moldova’s commitment to developing a lasting cooperation with Kazakhstan, as well as with the entire Central Asian region.
“We wish to be closer to our citizens, but also to the opportunities that this cooperation offers in the political, economic, and sectoral fields,” stated Mihai Popșoi, as quoted in a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, stated that this diplomatic presence will contribute to the deepening of political dialogue and the exploitation of opportunities for interstate cooperation.
“The opening of the embassy strengthens Kazakhstan’s ties with the international community and contributes to the development of friendship and cooperation in various fields with Moldova. I assure you of the full support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of Kazakhstan,” declared Murat Nurtleu.
During the ceremony, Minister Mihai Popșoi awarded Government Honorary Diplomas to two Moldovan citizens residing in Astana: Aurel Gîscă, for civic involvement and support in strengthening Moldova’s diplomatic presence in Kazakhstan, and Natalia Karagoz, in recognition of her contribution to promoting national cultural heritage.
With the official inauguration, the mission begins its activity to provide consular services to Moldovan citizens in Kazakhstan, as well as to ensure the protection of their rights and interests.
In addition to the support provided to the Moldovan community, the embassy will facilitate political dialogue and contribute to the development of bilateral cooperation in key areas such as economy, trade, education, culture, and science. It will also ensure direct communication with the central and local authorities in Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs communicates.
The inauguration of the embassy falls within the program of the visit of the Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi to Kazakhstan, which took place between July 1 and 3.
