Minister on the transporters’ protest: It’s their constitutional right

Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, commented on the protest announced by transporters for July 9th, stating that the action represents their constitutional right. According to him, the establishment of the e-ticket system, which they disagree with, aims to increase transparency and efficiency in public transport, reports IPN.

“It is their constitutional right to protest. The establishment of the e-ticket electronic system is a government decision that has not yet come into effect, it has not passed through Parliament. This decision is still under public discussion. The decision stipulates that all transport units must be equipped with a cash register that will be interconnected to a centralized system that will allow the sale of tickets online”, declared Vladimir Bolea during the Rezoomat show on RliveTV.

Furthermore, the minister specified that modern monitoring systems, such as GPS, are already in use in Chisinau and bring direct benefits to the citizens. “Today in Chisinau, the GPS system is installed on trolleybuses, it is the comfort of a person when checking the time the trolleybus arrives. So, we want to introduce conditions for the comfort of the citizen, so that they can see in real time where the transport unit is”, said the deputy prime minister.

Referring to the requests regarding the adaptation of transport units for people with special needs, Vladimir Bolea explained that the authorities have not imposed new requirements, but have only requested updated information from the carriers.

“ANTA has addressed transporters to obtain information about how many vehicles are adapted for the transportation of people with disabilities. ANTA is responsible for collecting this information. Since 2012, a law has been in force requiring transporters to adapt their transport units. The only requirement is for transporters to notify ANTA, whether they have such transport units or not”, stated the minister.

The Employers’ Association of Road Transport Operators has announced a protest for July 9th in the Great National Assembly Square. Over 100 minibuses and buses are expected to participate in the demonstration, as transporters are dissatisfied with how the authorities are managing the road transport sector.
