Moldovans living abroad are encouraged to register for the September 28 parliamentary elections. According to government spokesman Daniel Voda, this stage is important for estimating the number of voters in the diaspora and for the proper organization of the electoral process abroad, IPN reports.
The pre-registration platform, available at inregistrare.cec.md, will be active until August 14, midnight, Moldovan time. Citizens who have already declared their place of residence in previous elections and have not changed their place of residence do not need to register again.
“Thousands of kilometers away, but always with the Republic of Moldova in mind and closer by voting”, Daniel Voda told a press briefing after the cabinet meeting. Vodă urged citizens to inform themselves and their relatives and friends in the diaspora about this possibility.
So far, more than 113 thousand Moldovans from 87 countries and more than 5 300 localities have pre-registered. Most applications are from Italy, the UK and Germany.
As regards postal voting, Daniel Voda quoted the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, who confirmed that it will be maintained for the autumn elections, and that the project will be finalized, with the geography of application of the exercise.
Last year, postal voting was tested in six countries: the USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Norway, Iceland and Finland. Around 1800 Moldovan voters opted for this voting method.
