The Republic of Moldova’s delegation to the Joint Control Commission (JCC) informed about the presence of illegal checkpoints in the Security Zone. In discussions held inside the Commission, the representatives of Tiraspol admitted that they periodically set up mobile checkpoints consisting of so-called border guards in Bender, ignoring the principles of the peacekeeping mission on the Nistru, IPN reports. The JCC had a meeting in Bender and examined the weekly report by the Unified Combatant Command on the situation in the Security Zone. “The presence of illegal checkpoints of Transnistrian forces was ascertained. This show that the security regime established for the municipality of Bender by the provisions of the Agreement of July 21, 1992 is continuously defied,” shows a press release issued by the Reintegration Policies Bureau. When discussing the unauthorized pacing of the metallic parapet on the road that connects Varnița and Bender, the representatives of Tiraspol said that this installation is intended to ensure road safety and will not be used to hamper the free movement. The Bureau also said that the Republic of Moldova’s delegation to the JCC and its representatives to the Unified Combatant Command will uninterruptedly monitor the taken unilateral actions so as to avoid the appearance of new tension hotbeds in the Security Zone.
