Four young people were detained for smuggling over US$180,000. The suspects hid the money in the pockets of their coats and pants and also under their waist belts, IPN reports.
It happened at the Vulcanesti customs post, at the entrance into the country from Ukraine. The four persons, aged between 22 and 31, selected the “nothing to declare” green lane. However, customs inspectors ordered a thorough check of the car and goods transported and the money was found on the suspects.
Subsequently, customs officers conducted five searches at the homes and in the vehicles of the suspects. One of them was previously investigated for organizing illegal migration, for theft and accidents.
Prosecutors are to decide whether to ask for preventive detention or not and to establish the purpose of over US$180,000.
