The People’s Advocate proposes a series of restrictions on the use of fireworks, signaling major risks to human health, public safety and the environment. In a report, the ombudsman emphasizes that the excessive use of pyrotechnic products leads to serious trauma, pollution and particularly affects children, the elderly, and animals, reports IPN.

The initiative of the Ombudsman’s Office is reflected in a report presented to the Parliamentary Committee for Environment, Climate and Green Transition, which includes data collected between December 2025 and February 2026.

“The analyzed data indicates severe trauma caused by the use of pyrotechnic articles, including burns, eye injuries and severe bodily harm, some resulting in amputations of finger phalanges, including among minors”, mentions the People’s Advocate, Ceslav Panico.

According to him, environmental authorities also noted significant increases in air pollution levels during the winter holiday period, and public order institutions reported numerous interventions and cases of illegal use of these products.

The Ombudsman recommends a review of the legislation in this area, by restricting the use of pyrotechnic articles for individual use, establishing specific zones and time intervals for their use. Also, it proposes their prohibition in densely populated urban areas or near medical institutions.
