Approximately 8 thousand children will receive 700 lei each from the Chisinau City Hall for the preparation of the beginning of the school year. According to the capital’s mayor, Ion Ceban, the money can be used for school supplies, backpacks and other necessary items, and the aid is granted annually, starting from 2020, reports IPN.
Ion Ceban stated that the program is intended for children from low-income families. According to the mayor, the funds will be granted following the procedure from previous years. He requested that the process be transparent, so that the support reaches the families who need it the most. Ion Ceban also mentioned that the program is a permanent and institutionalized one and is part of the social programs of the municipality.
At the same time, the mayor reminded that primary school students benefit from free public transportation in Chisinau. Ion Ceban also asked public transportation employees to show a careful attitude towards children. He urged the administrations of the Electric Transport Directorate and the Urban Bus Park to prevent situations where students are jostled or kicked off buses or trolleybuses for various reasons.
Ion Ceban has requested that, in such situations, the responsible institutions be informed, and employees who exhibit inappropriate behavior be sanctioned.
