An extended railway line to the State Port of Giurgiulesti and the multifunctional mode for the development of logistic services and transshipment operations of goods at the Prut station – these are projects analyzed by the Moldova Railway within the plans for the development of logistic infrastructure and strengthening of the railway connection with the port, reports IPN.
According to CFM, extending the line to the port area would allow the loading and unloading of goods directly in the port, without additional intermediary transport operations. Thus, the company estimates that costs could be reduced and logistic flows optimized.
At the Prut station, the construction of a multifunctional module intended for logistic services, transshipment and handling of goods, as well as for a more efficient connection of the railway infrastructure with the road one, is being considered.
CFM asserts that the projects follow a series of works carried out for the rehabilitation of the railway infrastructure in the south of the country. Among these are the rehabilitation of the Valeni sector, including the consolidation of the embankment and the bank of the Prut river, the reactivation of the Prut-Falciu connection, which ensures the link with the railway infrastructure in Romania, as well as the rehabilitation of the unloading platforms at Cahul, Prut and Iargara.
According to the company, the railway section to Giurgiulesti has generated revenues of over 20 million lei in the last three months.
