The Director of the Hancesti District Hospital, Petru Ciubotaru, resigned on Wednesday morning, against the backdrop of the case of the teacher Ludmila Vartic. The announcement was made by the Minister of Health, Emil Ceban, who stated that the doctor admitted his guilt for not notifying the legal authorities after learning that the patient had attempted suicide on November 5, reports IPN.
An internal investigation has been opened by the Ministry of Health, which is expected to be completed by March 20th. Emil Ceban mentioned that all the people involved have provided explanations and testimonies.
The hospital director was informed about the situation as early as November 5, when the patient was admitted and monitored for two days. Subsequently, he assumed responsibility for the omission, acknowledging the breach of legal obligations, which require medical staff to immediately notify the police in case of suicide attempts or other dangerous situations, the minister specified. In this case, the doctor would have found that the patient had ingested several medications, but the information was not transmitted to the competent authorities.
Doctor Petru Ciubotaru told IPN on Tuesday that the incident on November 5 was treated as a labor dispute, without involving other institutions, as the patient was conscious and showed no visible signs of violence.
Law enforcement officials are investigating the death of kindergarten teacher Ludmila Vartic from Hancesti, following reports that she was a victim of domestic violence and, as a result, took her own life. Her husband, Dumitru Vartic, has resigned from his position as vice president of the district. Subsequently, law enforcement announced that the man is a suspect in the investigation, and the two criminal cases have been consolidated; the case is being investigated as a crime of domestic violence resulting in suicide. Dumitru Vartic has denied the allegations of violence.
