A man aged 61 from the Republic of Moldova died when the bus running on the Chisinau – Kyiv route on which he and his wife were travelling crashed into a truck near Znamenka, Odessa region, in the morning of July 27. His wife was admitted to an intensive care unit.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the bus registered in the Republic of Moldova had 20 passengers aboard. Another three victims of the accident, who are Ukrainian nationals, needed medical care.
Representatives of the diplomatic mission urgently made approaches to the authorities to obtain additional information about the nationality, identity and situation of the affected persons. An investigation is underway. The Consular Office in Odessa keeps in touch with the Ukrainian authorities for obtaining details about the cause of the accident and for offering consular assistance to the grieving family.
According to the police in Odessa, the driver lost control of the bus and ran the vehicle into a truck parked on the roadside.
