The European Commission has transferred €1 billion to Ukraine as part of a wider economic aid program. The tranche is the fourth installment of macro-financial assistance to the Ukrainian state and is being financed from frozen Russian assets, according to a press release from the EU bloc’s executive, IPN reports.
The tranche comes on top of the €6 billion already given to Kiev in 2025. A further €12.1bn will be transferred to Ukraine by the end of this year, according to EU economic commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis.
The aid is part of €45bn in loans made available by the G7 countries and the European Union. In March, EU leaders reiterated their commitment to help Ukraine in the wake of the war waged by the Russian Federation.
