White smoke has billowed from above the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel, signifying that a new pope has been elected, IPN reports.
The white smoke billowing out on the Sistine Chapel’s chimney was spotted at around 18:00 local time (19:00 local time).
This is the third smoke and the third round of voting by the cardinals gathered in conclave. The new pope will go public shortly, as per tradition.
The previous conclave in 2013, at which Pope Francis was elected, lasted two days.
