A video with falsified statements, released by the President of the Central Electoral Commission, was shared on social media. The clip announces that Moldova would allow countries from the European Union to intervene in the elections. These are statements that do not belong to Angelica Caraman, and the video footage has been digitally manipulated with the help of artificial intelligence in order to appear authentic, reports IPN, citing Stopfals.md.

The alleged message of the head of the Electoral Commission was titled: “CEC allowed EU countries to interfere in the elections in the Republic of Moldova”. The images were taken and distributed on Telegram channels, as well as on websites from the Russian Federation.

Stopfals.md clarifies that the video used to create this deepfake was made from a real public appearance of Angelica Caraman in a show in May, but the content was distorted. Specifically, in reality, the CEC president never made the statements attributed to her and the Commission did not issue any statement supporting interference in the election.

It should be noted that a deepfake is a fake video, which contains images that may seem real, but which contain visible signs of manipulation – visual and auditory inconsistencies.
