A firefighter died in the line of duty while battling a wildfire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon near Rădulenii Vechi, Florești. His body was spotted by his colleagues on the ground in the area affected by the fire.
The General Inspectorate for Emergencies said that the vegetation fire was reported to the 112 service at around 5:00 PM. A fire crew from the Florești Unit was deployed to the scene. Since the fire was spreading rapidly, the decision was made to supplement the forces, with a team from Soroca being sent as well. On arrival, the second team found the lifeless body of their colleague on the ground in the area affected by the fire.
The firefighter was serving in the Florești Rescue and Firefighters Unit. No other details have been disclosed.
An investigation, including a post-mortem, will ensue.
