Munteanu and Radev discussed Moldova’s accession to the EU and regional security

The strengthening of Moldovan-Bulgarian cooperation, political dialogue, and the advancement of the European path of the Republic of Moldova were the topics discussed by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and his Bulgarian counterpart, Rumen Radev. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Summit, held in Sofia, reports IPN.

The executive head of Chisinau appreciated the constant support offered by Bulgaria for the European agenda of the Republic of Moldova and highlighted the importance of continuing this support. According to the prime minister, the two states are united by friendly relations and common interests regarding the stability and prosperity of the Black Sea region.

Another topic of the meeting was the situation of the Bulgarian community in the Republic of Moldova. Alexandru Munteanu reaffirmed the commitment of the authorities to protect the linguistic and cultural identity of the Bulgarian minority, including in the context of local public administration reform. At the same time, officials emphasized the importance of developing the Taraclia branch of the “Angel Kanchev” University, considered a project with significant impact for regional development and youth education.

The Moldovan Prime Minister thanked Bulgaria for the support given to the Republic of Moldova through projects in the fields of education, infrastructure, energy efficiency, and local development. In the period 2024-2025, the value of the assistance provided by the Bulgarian side exceeded 600 thousand euros.

On the agenda of the discussions was also cooperation in the energy sector. The Moldovan Prime Minister appreciated Bulgaria’s contribution to the development of the Vertical Gas Corridor, a project that supports the diversification of energy supply sources. The Republic of Moldova expressed its interest in expanding cooperation in the field of natural gas supply and storage, as well as in strengthening regional energy connectivity.
