National day of mourning. Eugen Doga is laid to rest

Today is declared a national day of mourning in regards to the funeral of composer Eugen Doga. In all cities and towns throughout the country, as well as in the diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Moldova abroad, the flag is lowered to half-mast. At noon, the memory of the maestro will be honored with a moment of silence, as reported by IPN.

By decree, signed by President Maia Sandu, public authorities, businesses, and organizations are recommended to refrain from organizing mass entertainment activities, and mass media institutions are advised to consider the specifics of the day when editing publications and forming programs.

The national public service provider of media, ‘Teleradio-Moldova’, will broadcast throughout the day programs from the company’s archives about the life and work of the composer.

The funeral program will start at 10:00, with the body lying in state at the National Palace “Nicolae Sulac”. It will be followed by the ceremony “In memoriam Eugen Doga” and a funeral procession. At 13:00, the funeral procession will travel to the Central Cemetery on Armenească Street, and at 14:00 the funeral ceremony will begin.

The composer passed away on June 3, at the age of 88. Eugen Doga was born in the village of Mocra, Ribnita, on March 1. He is an Artist of the People of the Republic of Moldova and an Artist of the People of the USSR. He is a recipient of the National Prize and the State Prize of the USSR, a Knight of the Order of the Republic, and other honorary titles and awards from his own country and abroad. He is a full member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
