The Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova announces the opening of the registration period for postal voting in the parliamentary elections of September 28. The procedure is compulsory for Moldovan citizens with the right to vote who, during the election period, will be in one of the ten countries where this alternative voting method will be applied and wish to use it. Only registered voters will be able to vote via postal or courier services, IPN reports.
The electoral authority says in a press release that the purpose of the registration is to determine the number of voters opting for this method of voting and to draw up the specific electoral lists for postal voting.
In this year, absentee voting will be available for voters located in: United States of America, Canada, Kingdom of Norway, Kingdom of Sweden, Finland Republic, Iceland, Japan, Republic of Korea, Commonwealth of Australia, and New Zealand.
Republic of Moldova is undergoing its second mail-in voting exercise. The first time this method was tested was during last year’s presidential elections and republican referendum, in six states.
The registration is done online, by accessing the webpage www.alegator.md, managed by the Central Electoral Commission, or directly at https://inregistrare.cec.md.
The voter must complete a form and upload a photo of their face, taken simultaneously with the identification document that confirms their right to vote: the passport of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova (including expired ones), the identity card or book of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova.
The registration period will end on August 14th. The CEC (Central Electoral Commission) warns that registrations made earlier for the 2024 presidential elections and constitutional referendum are no longer valid, so the procedure must be completed again.
