The inhabitants of Tulcea County in Romania last night received warning messages through the RO-Alert system, due to a Russian drone attack on targets in Ukraine, located near the border with Romania. Four aircraft monitored the Romanian airspace, IPN reports.
The monitoring and surveillance systems of the Romanian Ministry of Defense permanently monitored the airspace in the area. According to the procedures, two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force and two Eurofighters of the Italian Air Force, in the Air Police Combat Service, took off from the 86th Borcea Air Base and the 57th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, carrying out airspace surveillance and protection missions, according to a press release of the Ministry.
The air alert was stopped four hours later, at around 04:50 a.m. The combat aircraft later returned to their air bases.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense noted that there are no direct threats to Romania’s territory, but it continues to maintain a high level of vigilance and reaction capacity, in the context of the military conflict on the border.
