Sergiu Litvinenco about no-confidence motion: Fight against corruption will continue

It is a constitutional right of the opposition, Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco stated, referring to the simple motion of no confidence proposed against him by the MPs of the PCRM-PSRM Bloc. Litvinenco said he will come to Parliament to answer all the questions of MPs and the opposition’s criticism will not stop the government from further fighting corruption so as to root it out, IPN reports.

The simple motion put forward by the BCS MPs on October 14 says the minister of justice tries to subjugate the judiciary and to take over the Prosecutor General’s Office. Moreover, the opposition accuses Litvinenco of planning the developments in the case of Stoianoglo.

“I will go to Parliament and will respond to all the accusations made against me. It’s definite that the fight against corruption is a necessity and we will go on no matter how many obstacles are placed on our path by the politicians. There are many persons who want the state of affairs during Stoianoglo’s tenure to continue so that we further witness the full inefficiency of the Prosecutor’s Office. The minister of justice is a member of the Superior Council of Prosecutors. Stoianoglo came to the Council’s deliberative meeting illegally and I expressed my viewpoint when he threatened the members of the SCP,” Sergiu Litvinenco stated in the talk show “Shadow Cabinet” on JurnalTV channel.

Political commentators anticipate that the simple motion will fail and consider that the opposition lacks ideas.

“The calculations in Parliament show that the votes will be to the disadvantage of the opposition. Furthermore, the whole society is waiting for results in the fight against corruption and the justice sector reform and the people mandated the parliamentary majority to deliver on its promises. I expected that the opposition will attack the minister of justice on such grounds as the slow pace of developments and of the reform. The opposition has image-related problems and, when the motion is debated, it will surely not be carried. Later, as the Parliament’s Regulations provide, simple motions against Minister Litvinenco cannot be proposed for a period and he can stay calm,” said political commentator Anatol Țăranu.

Under the law, a simple motion is debated in Parliament during 14 days of the submission day and can be adopted by the votes of at least 51 MPs. The Party of Action and Solidarity, of which Sergiu Litvinenco forms part, has 63 seats of MP of the 101.
