The European Union allocates 8 million euros to the Republic of Moldova from the total budget of 1.9 billion euros intended for humanitarian aid for the year 2026. The announcement was made by the European Commission, which specified that the majority of the funds will be directed towards Africa and the Middle East, reports IPN.

The decision was announced in a context where, globally, approximately 239 million people require humanitarian assistance. Among the states that will benefit from financial support is also Ukraine, to which 145 million euros will be allocated.

According to the European executive, the financial support will be allocated for ensuring food and emergency shelters, providing essential medical assistance, protecting vulnerable individuals and facilitating access to education for children in crisis-affected areas.

At the same time, the Commission mentioned that the European Union is the main global donor of humanitarian aid, providing humanitarian support since 1992 in over 110 countries, through non-governmental humanitarian organizations, international organizations and specialized agencies from member states.
