13 people evacuated following fire in Balti, woman suffers CO poisoning

A fire that broke out on the night of January 22 in a residential block on Suceava St in Balti municipality mobilized four teams of firefighters and rescuers. The fire was noticed at around 02:00 a.m. on the second floor of a 9-storey building, IPN reports.

The owner of the affected apartment, a 26-year-old woman, was evacuated and transported to the hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning.

To ensure the safety of dwellers, the firefighters evacuated another 12 people from the upper floors as the risk of smoke poisoning was high.

The fire, which completely destroyed objects in a 12-square-meter room, was extinguished close to 03:00 a.m.

The first examinations showed that the fire most likely started due to reckless smoking. Investigations continue.
