In just two months, 818 citizens have pre-registered to vote abroad in the parliamentary elections of September 28. The figure of those registered refers only to the current year, reports IPN.
The majority registered in the Russian Federation, 207 in number. Next is the United States of America with 88 registered individuals, followed by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with 69 applicants.
In total, about 114 thousand citizens registered to vote in the elections in the Republic of Moldova from the diaspora, with the majority being in Italy, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Germany, and the Russian Federation.
Citizens of the Republic of Moldova who wish to vote abroad in the parliamentary elections on September 28 can register through the online application “Pre-registration”. According to the CEC, the purpose of pre-registration is to establish the estimated number of voters who express their intention to vote outside the country’s borders.
In order to register, voters will access the webpage https://inregistrare.cec.md and follow the instructions. Pre-registration can be done up to 45 days before election day. The last day for registration is August 14th.
Voters who have previously registered for earlier elections and have not changed their location abroad are not obliged to register again, but they can cancel their previous registration and make a new preliminary one.
The parliamentary elections will take place on September 28th of the current year. The Legislature’s decision to approve the election day was published in the Official Gazette on April 18th.
