Citizens have the duty to care for the Romanian language and to pass on their love for it to their children, just as they received it from previous generations. The message was conveyed by President Maia Sandu on Romanian Language Day, about which she emphasized that it is part of the nation’s being, reports IPN.
“Our parents and grandparents continued to speak it even in the harshest of times, despite prohibitions and humiliations. Thanks to them, the Romanian language has endured on this piece of land,” declared Maia Sandu.
The head of state mentioned that today the Romanian language can be spoken freely and without fear. She encouraged people to preserve this heritage and pass it on to their children as a living language, in which they can tell their stories, sing their ballads, and express their longing.
“The language lives through us. Through the way we speak it, write it, read it, and pass it on to our children,” said the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, in a message dedicated to the Romanian Language Day. The official reiterated that the Romanian language is today enshrined in the Constitution as the state language and urged citizens to value it every day.
