More than 9,000 insured patients were operated on for cataract in 2023 in medical institutions contracted by the National Health Insurance Company. The allocated funds amounted to 122 million lei. The average cost per patient exceeds 13,000 lei, IPN reports.
Cataract surgeries were performed last year in 17 medical institutions: nine public, one departmental and seven private ones.
This year, over 141 million lei was earmarked for cataract surgeries. All the insured persons who have medical indications and are on the waiting list can benefit from such surgery. Between 2022 and 2023, the waiting time for these surgeries was reduced to one year.
