The Republic of Moldova will receive about US$27 million in financial assistance from Japan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu announced after a farewell meeting with Ambassador Yoshihiro Katayama, who is completing his duties in Moldova, IPN reports.
“In the meeting, I was glad to receive the official notification from the Japanese authorities of the approval by the National Diet of Japan of financial assistance totaling approximately US$27, which was announced during the Moldovan President’s visit to Japan. The sum is to be offered to our country through the agency of international organizations for concrete projects in health, energy, food industry, whose goal is to reduce the impact of the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine on our country,” stated the minister.
Nicu Popescu noted the contribution made by Ambassador Yoshihiro Katayama to strengthening the Moldovan-Japanese relations of friendship and cooperation. He thanked the diplomat for the assistance offered to modernize the Republic of Moldova. For his contribution, President Maia Sandu, at the suggestion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, conferred the Order of Honor on him.
The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Japan were established on March 16, 1992, when Japan recognized the independence of the Republic of Moldova.
