In the Republic of Moldova, almost 45,000 men and women bear names of flowers or derivatives of such names. On Palm Sunday, they celebrate their name day. Viorica is the most popular name. Over 15,000 women in Moldova bear this name, IPN reports.
According to the State Population Register presented by the Public Services Agency, almost 9,500 men are called Viorel.
Nearly 8,000 women are named Liliana, while over 5,000 men bear the name Lilian.
About 4,500 women are called Violeta, while slightly over 1,000 – Crina.
Several hundred men are named Florin, while slightly over 100 women are called Florentina.
Seventy-one women bear the name Romanița, while 66 – Yasmin. Fewer women are called Narcisa, Lăcrimioara, Brândușa, Lili, and Iris and fewer men are named Bujor, Crin, and Narcis. Two women were named Floricica, while two men were named Trandafir.
