Social rights are a priority for the Republic of Moldova in the context of the accession process to the European Union. Foremost is the protection, especially of vulnerable individuals and the necessary support provided to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova for a better life, a decent life here, in the country. The statements were made by the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Natalia Plugaru, on the sidelines of the High-Level Conference on Social Rights – the European Social Charter, reports IPN.
The Minister stated that for Moldova, it is an honor to host this conference under the Presidency held at the Council of Europe, and mentioned that these days, discussions are being held about social rights, including the right to work and to decent work.
At the same time, Natalia Plugaru pointed out that the right to decent wages and workplace protection are also targeted, while also emphasizing the importance of the rights of vulnerable individuals, such as children, families and people with disabilities. The Minister further stated that all these fundamental rights are at the basis of the country’s democratic and development processes.
The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, expressed his joy that this important conference is taking place in Chisinau, at a time he considered opportune, while also underlining the ongoing need to strengthen social rights.
The official mentioned that an inclusive society does not only presuppose good infrastructure, adequate protection and an efficient defense system, but also, in a difficult period marked by multiple crises, essential investments in democratic security, in strong institutions, as well as in ensuring the population’s access to health, housing and social rights.
The high-level conference on social rights – the European Social Charter is organized, during the period of March 18-19 in Chisinau, by the MMPS, in partnership with the Council of Europe. The event brings together approximately 50 delegations from the member states of the Council, European institutions and international organizations.
