Transport services have been resumed throughout the country, with temporarily higher rates

Passenger transport services have been resumed throughout the country, and traffic is operating normally, ensuring the connection between all localities. The National Auto Transport Agency announces that, as of today, the provisional fares for regular transport services, approved at the extraordinary Government meeting on Thursday, come into effect. However, transporters claim that the new calculation formula does not allow them to resume all routes, citing insufficient coverage of costs, reports IPN.

The provisional rates apply both for inter-regional transport, as well as for regional ones. For inter-regional routes, the rate is 0.90 lei per kilometer for comfort category II and 1.03 lei per kilometer for comfort category I. In the case of regional transport, the rates are 1.02 lei per kilometer for comfort category II and 1.15 lei per kilometer for comfort category I.

The President of the Employers’ Association of Auto Transport Operators, Oleg Alexa, stated that operators are resuming their activities, but some routes may be operated less frequently or even suspended for a longer period. He mentions that the increase in fares is only a temporary solution and does not solve the real problems in the transport sector.

According to Oleg Alexa, in the coming days, transporters will assess the profitability of routes and decide which of these can be maintained. In the absence of sustainable solutions, operators do not rule out reducing some routes, especially in areas with low passenger flow and high operating costs.
