The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the Islamic Republic of Iran, residing in Baku, advises Moldovan citizens to avoid any travel to Iran, due to the escalation of internal tensions and the persistence of security risks in the region, reports IPN.
Citizens of the Republic of Moldova who are in Iran are encouraged to contact the embassy by phone or email to communicate their location, in case of evacuation needs. Leaving the country is possible by air or by land through Turkey or Armenia. At the same time, the land border between Iran and Azerbaijan remains closed.
Also, in the event of an evacuation through the territory of Azerbaijan, Moldovan citizens must obtain a special authorization from the Azerbaijani authorities beforehand, which is why they are urged to maintain constant contact with the Moldovan Embassy in Baku.
The protests in Iran began on December 28 in Tehran, when shop owners closed their businesses in dissatisfaction with hyperinflation and the economic crisis, before the demonstrations also took on a political dimension. According to official reports, at least 12 people, including members of the security forces, were killed.
