The city of Calaraai has been designated as the “Capital of Sport 2025”. The title is awarded for the first time as part of a national program, won by the city. The locality will receive one million lei for the organization of activities that will bring together athletes from all districts. The announcement was made by the Minister of Education and Research, Dan Perciun, during a press conference, reports IPN.
Minister Perciun mentioned that nine localities applied for the competition: “They had to present an activity plan for us to fund this year, in such a way that especially the residents of those cities and not only would benefit from a diverse program in 2025, unlike what it has been so far.” The Minister emphasized that the ultimate goal was the promotion of sports, especially mass sports.
A central element of the program will be a national forum in the field of sports, which will bring together individuals from the sports sector, local public administration, the associative environment, and the private sector, to identify solutions and strategic directions for development.
Additionally, the Ministry of Education and Research will support the local public authority in Calarasi by organizing a training course for officials and subordinate institutions, to strengthen administrative and technical capacities, as well as by providing support for the development of a local strategy in the field of sports.
From June to December, numerous sporting events will be organized in Călărași, including national wrestling competitions, a stage of the national motocross competition, festivals, and sports demonstrations. Additionally, special activities will be carried out to encourage the participation of older individuals in physical movement and exercises.
