Moldovan athlete Vasile Diacon has won a bronze medal at the European Wrestling Championships held in Zagreb, Croatia, IPN reports.
He scored three victories in the 70 kg weight class, against Slovakia’s Daniel Chomanic, Armenia’s Arman Andreasyan and Kevin Henkel of Germany. In the semifinals, Diacon lost to Azerbaijan’s Haji Aliyev, who became an Olympic vice champion in Tokyo in the 65 kg class.
Another two more Moldovan wrestlers, Georgii Rubaev (86 kg) and Andrian Grosul (92 kg), will compete in the playoffs.
