Moldova to adhere to acts of Universal Postal Union

The Republic of Moldova will adhere to the acts of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), which will contribute to the improvement of postal payment services. It will also be possible to expand and modify the list of basic services and additional postal services, IPN reports.

The Cabinet approved the draft law on the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the Fourth Additional Protocol to the General Regulations of the Universal Postal Union, to the First Additional Protocol to the Postal Payment Services Agreement and the First Additional Protocol to the Universal Postal Convention.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization noted that the provisions focus on ensuring the quality and accessibility of postal services globally. It also strengthens international cooperation between UPU member countries to adapt to the changing needs of the postal market, ensuring coherence with the overall development of the postal sector.

Under the new provisions, improved procedures for postal payment services will be established to promote safe and efficient cross-border financial transactions. Standards are also defined for digital postal payments, supporting the global trend towards e-commerce and digital financial services.

The Republic of Moldova has been a member of the Universal Postal Union since November 16, 1992 and ratified its acts over several years.

The three acts that Moldova transposes today were adopted in 2023, at the Fourth Extraordinary Congress of the Universal Postal Union held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
