Travellers are urged to be attentive when they need to cross the state border with medicines containing psychotropic substances or drugs bought from countries where these are released without a medical prescription. The Customs Service reminds that the bringing of such substances into Moldova is classed as contraband and can be punished with a jail term of at most eight years, IPN reports.
The Customs Service recommends the citizens to make use of these medicines only based on a medical prescription issued by health specialists. This category includes such medicines as Modafinil, Alprazolam and Tramadol. The full list of drugs or psychotropic substances that are subject to control can be seen here.
The medicines are considered goods for personal use and these can be taken into and out of Moldova only if the quantity in the baggage does not exceed the quantity needed for treatment during the stay in the county of destination or the trip. These should be also accompanied by the prescription based on which the medicines were released or by other documents issued by medical institutions with the indication of the name of the drug, the method and length of treatment using the drug.
If the persons travel by plane, they should inform themselves beforehand about the eventual norms or restrictions related to the transportation of medicines.
On the eve of the Easter holidays, when the flow of passengers grows, the Customs Service urges the citizens to obtain information about the declaring and transportation of goods in advance so as to contribute to reducing the time of crossing the state border.
