In 86 schools, or 8% of all schools, pupils still go to the toilet in the courtyard, which, according to experts, affects the hygiene conditions and comfort of pupils.
In a reply to IPN, the Ministry of Education and Research says that out of 86 schools, 32 have sanitary blocks designed inside the buildings, but they are not functional due to the lack of sewage and water supply networks.
297 institutions need renovation of sanitary blocks and in some cases new toilets need to be built.
By 2026, the authorities plan to renovate more than 160 sanitary blocks in schools. The renovation will be implemented by the National Office for Regional and Local Development and several development partners, in partnership with the MEC.
