The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania condemns the opening of polling stations in the Transnistrian region for the elections of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, without the consent of the constitutional authorities in Chisinau. According to Romanian authorities, this action violates the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and contradicts the efforts to politically resolve the Transnistrian issue, reports IPN.
At the same time, the authorities in Bucharest reaffirm their support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, within internationally recognized borders.
Romanian diplomacy condemns the organization, during the period of 18-20 September, of elections for the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. According to the institution, the conduct of the vote in these territories represents a serious violation of international law.
Romania maintains that such electoral processes cannot produce legal effects and cannot alter the international status of the respective territories. At the same time, Bucharest rejects the unilateral actions of the Russian Federation which, according to the statement, undermine the international legal order.
For the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, in the Republic of Moldova, 17 polling stations were opened: one in Chisinau, coordinated with the Moldovan authorities, and 16 in the Transnistrian region, without the consent of the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Moldova.
