Refugees from Ukraine will have easier access to health services in Moldova

The access of Ukrainian refugees to medical services in the Republic of Moldova will be improved through an information campaign, launched by the International Organization for Migration, reports IPN.

The campaign aims to inform refugees about their rights to medical services, the procedure for registering with a family doctor, medical insurance, the importance of vaccination, and the assistance provided to pregnant women. At the same time, the initiative supports medical staff who work directly with refugees, so that no person is left without medical care.

“The action we are launching today is a concrete proof of our commitment to defend human rights,” stated Angela Paraschiv, State Secretary at the Ministry of Health.

The project, launched in collaboration with the WHO, Ministry of Health, CNAM, and the General Inspectorate for Migration, is funded by the European Union and the Swiss Government.

According to Tatiana Ciumaș, the Head of the International Cooperation and Project Management Department of the General Inspectorate for Migration, the campaign continues the integration efforts that began in 2014.

The director of CNAM, Ion Dodon, noted that the funds for medical assistance for refugees have been supplemented annually, which has allowed for the expansion of the services offered.

Over 8,000 refugees have benefited from the support of IOM mediators in the last year. “The figures reflect changed lives, barriers removed, and dignity restored,” stated Ester Ruiz de Azua, the head of IOM in Moldova.

Iuliana Garam, WHO Program Coordinator in Moldova, emphasized that this campaign provides useful information, so that every refugee knows how to access medical care in Moldova.
