A person was detained following searches carried out in Jora de Jos locality of Orhei district within a case of illegal financing of a political party by an organized group. A sum of about 1 million lei was seized at the scene.
The National Anticorruption Center (NAC) said that a group of people allegedly planned illegal actions to compromise the October 20 election in Jora de Jos, including by corrupting voters.
The money impounded during the searches was to be used for the remuneration of party members and its sympathizers, the organization of festive events, concerts, meetings or other public events, rental of means of transport, refueling or remuneration of drivers.
“Following the searches, financial means in different currencies and also objects and documents proving the origin and purpose of the money were seized. The criminal investigation is carried out under the procedural direction of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Chisinau municipality,” said the NAC.
