A number of people from southern Moldova are suspected of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition and also of other objects used in poaching. The goods were seized and sent for ballistic and traceological examinations to determine whether they were used in other crimes.
The General Police Inspectorate said that during the searches at the homes of two men aged 37 and 38, 139 cartridges of 12 mm caliber, 111 cartridges of 16 mm caliber, two pneumatic weapons, two long smoothbore weapons of Simson and TOZ models, as well as a smoothbore weapon of IJ 27 model with the number and series damaged by deletion. All of them were held illegally, without permissive documents.
Also, violations were identified in the possession and storage of legally owned hunting weapons. The ammunition was adapted and used by the suspects for hunting wild animals, in the absence of the appropriate authorization and during the prohibited period, at night.
The suspects risk 3 to 7 years in jail and ban on owning, carrying and using weapons.
