A 48-year-old man fell under the ice of “La Izvor” lake in Chisinau municipality while he was fishing. He was noticed by passers-by, who called the emergency services. Rescuers pulled him out of the cold water and handed him over to doctors, IPN reports.
It happened on the night of February 24. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said that the man was fishing alone. At a certain moment, the layer of ice cracked and the fisherman fell into the water. He was floating by holding on to a wooden paddle, at a distance of about 40 meters from the shore.
The victim got frostbite. He was given first aid and was then taken to the hospital in a conscious state.
Specialists repeatedly urge the population to avoid staying on the ice of waterbodies, especially when temperatures oscillate between minus and plus. For the ice bridge to be firm, its thickness must be at least 10 cm. In situations of risk, the people should call the 112 Emergency Service.
