More than 1.5 million saplings were planted during two days as part of the national campaign “Forest Generation”. Over 7,700 people participated in the afforestation of an area of 325 hectares, and the works were carried out in most sectors of the 440 locations available for planting this autumn, IPN reports.
The Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă said that mostly oak, ash, acacia, maple, poplar trees were planted, in an assortment of 20 species. In total, more than 26 million saplings grown in the nurseries of “Moldsilva” Agency will be planted this autumn.
Across the country, over 440 planting locations are available in 160 localities so that citizens from different regions can contribute to the country’s afforestation. All those who want to participate in the planting campaign can join in during the coming days, choosing areas close to their place of living.
Daniel Vodă noted that over 7,300 hectares will be afforested this year. About 145,000 hectares will be afforested and rehabilitated in the Republic of Moldova during seven years within the national program for the expansion and rehabilitation of forests.
